RSC16 MAY and a Moose Tale

A quick post. We have been busy, busy here. Lots of yard work and etc. so I have not been spending much time online and I am really behind on my blog reading.  As far as quilting goes, I have been working on the Gwennie Medallion  QAL and the Front Porch SAL. You can read more about the Gwennie QAL HERE and the Front Proch SAL HERE on Lori's Humble Quilts blog.  I spent most of my time on the Gwennie Medallion. It is the first time I have attempted something like this so there was a lot of undoing and redoing, days of indecision with nothing done. I can't wait to see everyone's Gwennie baskets!

I just barely got my RSC16 for May done. The color of the month was evergreen. Since I have been making Dresden Flowers and my stems and leaves are mostly evergreen colors I choose lighter greens for the flowers. You can read more about the Rainbow Scrap Challenge HERE. I am linking up with Angela of Soscrappy blog and other Rainbow Scrappers HERE.

May's green RSC16

All my Dresden Flowers together. January through May RSC16.

Now for the moose tale. Driving home from Fairbanks, Ak we spotted this year old moose calf on the outer side of this fence. The fence is around a road maintaince station. He was looking forlorn and lost. My DH stopped so I could snap a photo.

Sorry this one is a little blurry, I took this photo through the truck window.

As we got closer we could see a bit of brown on the other side of the fence. Mama Moose!

This poor little guy didn't know what to do! He started watching us.

I think that is what got him moving along.

Mama Moose waiting for him.

He just has to go through those trees and he will be able to join her.

This years calves will be showing up soon. I always hope to see them and get a photo or two if possible.

I hope everyone has a good and safe Memorial Day. Rebecca

I finished the May block for the Westering Women BOM. I can't wait to see what the block will be for June. I am still making them as much as possible from my scraps. Sometimes though for the background squares and triangles I do have raid the stash.

April Hand Stitching & Tumbler Progress

I made some progress on two of my forever projects during the month of April. I have to say that Sweet William is starting to feel like it will actually be possible to complete. I hand pieced eight blocks in April and my total  now is 27!  There are 36 baskets so I only need to piece 9 more and I will have that portion of the quilt done and can start on the applique part.

The 8 baskets I pieced in April. (They look a little puffy because I haven't pressed them yet.)

27 completed baskets,

I continue to plug along on my Promise Baskets. I completed 10 in April. My total now is 42.

April Promise Baskets.

42 completed baskets.

As I am working on other projects I have been continuing with Bonnie Hunter's Leader/Ender Challenge. I added 8 rows to my Tumbler top in April. I am not sure how many more I have to go, maybe 10 more?

Just for fun I took a photo of all my Dresden Flower blocks together.

If you haven't entered my giveaway yet go to this POST and leave a comment to enter. Happy Quilting! Rebecca

Quilty 365, Westering Women, & RSC16

The leaves in the photo below bring me up to day 178 in my Quilty 365 journey. I began on November 5, 2015. Someone asked me if the leaves being turned different directons had any special meaning, it doesn't. It just depends on which way I happen to place my leaf template on the fabric. In the back of my mind I thought it might add to the quilt design. At this point I have no idea how I will lay these out. I am just enjoying the process right now.

I have not been able to decide on my next project. I have been looking through my books and patterns and have narrowed it down a little.  I do have six tops that need to be quilted, so I should focus on those. So in the meantime, I am going to be doing a bit of this and a bit of that. One of those things will be the Front Porch sew along with Lori of Humble Quilts, if you would like to join in  you can read about it HERE.
Another sew along I have joined in is Westering Women BOM that Barbara Brackman is hosting. I have been seeing so many wonderful blocks all over the internet I couldn't resist and it is only one block a month. You can find more information on Barbara's blog HERE. I am all caught up on the blocks and I am ready to start this month's block. I am trying to work from my CW Reproductions scrap bag as much as possible for these.
Barbara had a sew along last year called "Stars in Time Warp",  the information is still avaiable HERE, so I am going to make those too. Along with RSC16 I think all of these "bits of this and bits of that" will keep me busy!

First WW block Independence Square. You might notice some different backgrounds in this block. I am really trying to use my CW scraps in these. Sometimes though I just don't have pieces big enough.

Second WW block Indian Territoty.

Third WW block Sweet Gum Leaf,

Next is my RSC16 orange Dresden Flower. May's color is loden green, the color of my leaves and stems, so not sure what I will do for that. Maybe my leaves and stem can count?

We haven't been seeing too many moose lately. Just one here and there, but just a glimpse so I have not not gotten any photos. We did see some swans the other day, they are so beautiful!

If you haven't read about my give away check it out HERE, leave a comment to enter. I will be drawing two winners on May 7th.  Happy Quilting, Rebecca
